So you bought them separately, here is how to connect your domain name and hosting.

You can move over to the next step 5 if you bought your domain name and hosting together from the same company.

I will be using the two hosting companies I recommended in my previous post to explain to you how to simply do this.

Note that this applies to any hosting company you might wish to use other than the ones I wrote about. The sequence I explained in this post can be used interchangeably between any domain and hosting.

Let’s say you bought your domain name goodlooks.com with Truehost and your hosting with DomainKing.

1st: Change the Nameservers on Truehost.

Go to the platform where you bought the domain, in our above example, Truehost, and click on My Domains to bring out your list of domains.

  1. Go to the particular domain (goodlooks.com) you want to point to your hosting and click on the small arrow here as shown below.

2. Click on Manage Nameservers.

3. What you will see are the default nameservers of the Truehost company. It comes in 3 Nameserver details. But we want to direct it to our hosting in DomainKing. So we will select “Use custom nameservers (enter below)“. When you click on this, the nameserver details should be empty.

4. On another browser tab, open your search engine and search for “Default DomainKing servers“. DomainKing usually has 2 Nameservers. You will find something like this;

  • ns1.dknoc.com
  • ns2.dknoc.com

5. Copy the DomainKing servers and paste them into your Truehost domain. The first line should go to Nameserver 1 and the second line should go to Nameserver 2 and so forth. Click the “Change NameServers” at the bottom to save.

2nd: Add the domain name to your hosting on DomainKing.

Now go to your DomainKing account Services My Services.

  1. Click on the hosting plan you want to add the “goodlooks.com” domain to. The hosting name could be goodlooks.com or another hosting name (some hosting plans allow up to 30 domains on it). Click on Active.
